I have a friend that has a tattoo on her wrist. It is only one word. No decoration around it. No frills. It doesn't need any. Behind the simplicity of the word she had inked on her skin, visible to her and the world, its meaning as expansive as the sky.
The word is 'enough'.
When she had the tattoo placed on her wrist, for her, at that moment in her life, it meant she had had 'enough'. Enough of trying to please everyone around her. Family, friends, a demanding employer. She had just had 'enough'.
She needed the reminder, up front and center, that she was going to stand her ground. She had had 'enough'.
As time has passed
the meaning of her tattoo has changed...
She now looks at her inked declaration as meaning ’I am enough'.
By taking that anger and resentment of being so much to so many and turning it into something of a more empowering nature she has changed her life.
'I AM ENOUGH' three simple words with such meaning behind them.
To state these words, to make them a daily mantra, to believe these words, changes everything.
It is freedom that comes from no longer turning oneself inside out to become something to please another.
No longer being pigeonholed into the family and friend 'fixer’, the 'do-everything' employee is immensely freeing.
As we journey through life, we should all come to a place, an inner space, where we wake up and declare...
I AM ENOUGH.
I am enough just the way I am.
I do not have to please or placate anyone. I believe
strongly in who I am and what I'm worth.
No excuses.
Love me for me. Accept me... flaws and all... For I am enough.
